Cabarete, the capital of waves and winds in the Caribbeans, hosts the second edition of the Cabarete Pro of the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series tour.
The best WSL QS North American region surfers will compete at Playa Encuentro in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, from March 15-19th.
More than ten local surfers will compete in this event, headlined by Manuel Selman, Gianmarco Oliva, and Max Self, who currently competes on the WSL-QS tour.
Manuel Selman took the title with a historic victory in the inaugural version. Selman beat Evan Geiselman after both competitors battled through a heavily stacked field with waves ranging from four to six feet and sometimes exceeding eight feet on the final day.
The event racked up nearly 50 media views with over 3.6 million average audience reach/impressions, according to media tracking service WSL.
WSL QS 3000 Cabarete Pro is a must for all surf enthusiasts who wish to visit Cabarete.
Surf & Wind City Cabarete is a project of the Ministry of Tourism that supports the growth of wave and wind sports in the Cabarete community.
The project became the main sponsor of this year’s event and Carambola Surf House, Cerveza Republica, Millennium hotel, Aerodom, and Cable del Norte. Led by Brian Mejía, Iván Herrera, Armando Mieses, and Jorge Mijares, the event looks set to be a competition with an epic wave forecast and conditions that will provide essential scenery.
The date in Cabarete is not just about the competition; it is also a celebration of culture and the surfing community, with live music, food, and activities for all ages. The event brings together local and international surfers and fans worldwide, creating a lively atmosphere at the Caribbean Surf Center – Playa Encuentro.
